This position is in Medical Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. This position provides support to Medical Service, Nursing and other ancillary services providing care to the patients in accordance with mission, vision, and values of the Boise VAMC. Individuals must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor. Licensure. Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT. Credential. Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT. Grade Determinations: GS-11 Registered Respiratory Therapist: Experience, Licensure and Credential. Candidates must: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level. Hold an active license and RRT credential. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs: Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex respiratory care to develop care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes. Skill in evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities. Skill in performing advanced airway and ventilation management. Preferred Experience: Home Care experience but not required. ["Performs basic spirometry, pre/post bronchodilator spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion, plethysmography, and MIPs/MEPs in the lab or at bedside, including adequate coaching, recognition of improperly performed maneuvers, corrective actions, and interpretation of test results. Compares and evaluates indications and contraindications for advanced pulmonary function tests (plethysmography, diffusion capacity, esophageal pressure, metabolic testing, and diaphragm stimulation) and be able to recognize normal/abnormal results. Maintains proper stocking of equipment within assignment areas and department. Evaluates and treats patients in a variety of settings using the appropriate respiratory care protocols/ provider orders. Completes patient assessment through direct contact, chart review, and other means as appropriate and share the information with healthcare team members. Works with home oxygen vendor to set up new oxygen patients, especially when home oxygen clinic is closed. Communicates effectively and efficiently with other members of the health care team on patient response to therapy, change in condition, and recommend alternative therapies when appropriate. Serves as a liaison to parties within and external to the VA to maintain a highly functional home oxygen program which meets all VHA and regulatory standards of quality and safety. Engages patients using RT equipment and empower patients with respiratory diseases through education. Performs site visits, accompany oxygen contract personnel on home visits to monitor compliance of patient and contract company qualification standards. Maintains effective relationships with internal and external VA staff and other customers including service line chiefs, supervisors, employees, and other hospital staff so that minimal high-level management intervention is required. Meets customer/patient expectations, with results to be determined through an established customer survey or other appropriate feedback system, that has baseline measurements of customer/patient satisfaction with individual performance.
